I'm currently writing from our AirBnb after a long day of exploring Rome, which consisted of the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Foro Romano. We took a bus from down the road and walked to the steps, which were rather underwhelming but the view was great.
Then we walked to the Trevi Fountain, which was beautiful as per usual.
Then we headed to the Pantheon (a Greek adjective meaning “honor all Gods”), which now is open to the public and used to be a Roman temple but is now a church, and one of the oldest standing and best preserved Roman structures, built in about 126 AD. Although we had to queue up in the heat, it was definitely nice to see. In the roof, there is an oculus, also known as the eye of the Pantheon which casts light inside the church.
We than had lunch, and headed to the Colosseum, visiting the gardens there as well as the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. All of these landmarks were of course amazing and historically important to see.
Today has been fun but we're thoroughly exhausted after walking about 15km. We'll head for a late dinner and some drinks probably locally tonight, and tomorrow we prepare to take a 3 hr train ride to see Naples.
