This is now my third day in Naples and tomorrow I leave for Sorrento for a few nights, where I'll hopefully be doing day trips to Capri, Positano and Amalfi. Naples has been ... interesting. The city is in some sense organised chaos, far different to Venice and Rome. It seems a fair bit rougher and dirtier than the other places Jamie and I have been to since we landed in Italy, but is endearing in its own way. I am definitely sick of pizza and pasta though, and fear for my health since I'll be in Italy until the 21st. The first day we arrived from Naples, we were both just exhausted and so stayed in our apartment and basically just watched Netflix all afternoon with the AC blasting (it's ridiculously humid and hot here) which was actually great. Yesterday we visited the ruins of Pompeii, where we got a guided tour and spent a few hours exploring the ancient city. It was really fascinating, but unfortunately also raining and you couldn't get a very good view of Mt Vesuvius from the ruins as it was obscured by clouds. We took the local metro line, which wasn't on time and didn't have AC, making the trip back in the afternoon borderline unbearable when were were already hot and tired. Unfortunately, my camera also ran out of battery meaning I couldn't get any photos of the ruins - thus, I only have a handful taken on my phone.
I had to check out of our AirBnb this morning at 10, visited the local botanical gardens and then took a taxi to the hostel where I'll be staying for a night in wait for my ferry to Sorrento. Jamie left this morning at 4:30am for Greece, and I won't be seeing him until May next year which is a really really long time and so I didn't feel emotionally up to do anything today except for walk along the coast line for a bit and return to the hostel. Anyway that's all from me from Naples today, I'm very tired and hot, but excited to head to Sorrento and spend some time on the beach.
