London - Day #2

Jamie arrived at 6 in the morning today, and I was so happy to see him! We've been planning this trip for so long and so it seems almost surreal for it to finally be happening. Roland and Angie, who we're staying with, having been so incredibly generous and treated us to many delights in London, including an Original Bus Tour of the city, featuring many of the historical landmarks such as the Elizabeth Tower, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St Paul's Cathedral etc. As buses aren't allowed to drive past Buckingham palace, Jamie and I decided to hop off at the stop there and see it. The palace was much larger than I thought it was and packed full of tourists, as expected. We decided to have an early lunch, I went to the local Pret A Manger, which I've never tried before. I can only say that I wish Melbourne had a fast-food chain that was even remotely as fresh and as of good quality, as the pre-packaged Greek salad from there was absolutely amazing. After buying our lunches, we then walked over to Green Park, where we ate in full view of the palace.

We then wondered around the nearby streets and somehow found ourselves on Bond St, which basically expensive boutique central from what I could gather. Jamie was drawn to the Rolex watches in the windows, whilst I found myself inside Tiffany & Co., feeling very poor. We had a look inside the Ralph Lauren flagship store, and assessed that in the hiring criteria for the staff, a posh London accent must have been absolutely necessary. I treated myself to a strawberry tart at the local patisserie on our walk (Mum will know exactly which dessert I'm talking about). Somehow, we ended up at Piccadilly Circus which I found really cool - including the 3 storey store dedicated to M&Ms, where you could make your own custom mix of the chocolate (don't worry, we did, and paid way too much to do it but it was fun.)

We then had a look at Covent Garden, and I bought some Muumi print postcards as an ode to my childhood and headed home. Later in the evening, we went out to dinner with Roland and Angie for Italian and by the end were both very full and very tired. Here are some photos that Jamie managed to take on his film camera during our bus tour today. More to come!
