Yesterday was probably one of the best days of my life when it comes to travel. A few days ago I booked to go on a boat tour of Capri with a group of people around my age, all of whom at the beginning I didn't know. The group consisted of mainly Australians from Melbourne or Brisbane, and some recently graduated frat-boys from Pennsylvania - I'll get to them later.
To start off, the boat we travelled on wasn't large - it was more of a rubber dingy, which made it all the more fun travelling over the choppy waters from Sorrento to Capri. I will never forget how when we were slowly exiting the port to head for the island, the captain suddenly accelerated whilst blasting the tune for Pirates of the Caribbean - he actually did look like Jack Sparrow. Over the 45 minute ride, I think I may have broken a few ribs trying to brace myself against to unpredictable waves that threw us around like rag dolls. I think the pirate (captain) found it funny.

Capri is honestly one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The water is a ridiculous shade of blue I've never seen before. For the next hour or so, we travelled around the island along the cliff faces, periodically diving into the water, exploring the caves and snorkelling.

We were then released onto the island for a few hours do as we pleased. Which, like in any place around the Amalfi coast, consisted of food and the beach. A few girls from the boat and I along with the American boys, went for lunch a restaurant with one of the best views I've seen. I shared a pizza that consisted of a marinara base, rocket, cherry tomatoes and shaved parmesan - my new favourite type of pizza. The whole time, the boys discussed what their wages were going to be once they got into the workforce - Americans, man.

After lunch, the girls and I went to sunbathe for the last hour that we had there.

After we got picked up on the boat again, we continued to circle the rest of the island and do more or less the same as before - swim and snorkel. I was so ridiculously tired from treading water by the end. The last thing that we got to do before the end of the day was ride a banana boat that was towed behind the dinghy - well it wasn't really riding, it was more like holding on for dear life. I forgot how much it hurt to hit the water at high speed, and also realised that I had forgotten what it felt like to be winded. For the purpose of illustration, this is what it looks like:

Note: smiles not included, it was terrifying
But as you can tell, I really enjoyed visiting Capri and I think doing a boat tour was such a great way to enjoy the island. I left Sorrento this morning and am currently back in Naples, writing from my hostel as I wait for my phone to charge before going to the Archeological Museum which houses a lot of artefacts from Pompeii. Tomorrow I meet up with the Stevens, will visit the Herculaneum and Pompeii again and then will head back to Rome! I'm excited to see some family after so long. Also, I turn 20 in 5 days!
Ciao!
