I landed in Helsinki a few days ago but haven't really been writing about much as I've just been hanging out with dad and seeing family, old places I use to visit etc. Today we ended up doing quite a bit and I brought my camera so I thought I'd put them up for you guys to see. After breakfast we visited Seurasaari, where there's a lot of historical old buildings from all over Finland which provide a really nice insight into how Finns used to live hundreds of years ago.
After a bit of pulla and coffee, we left for Korkeasaari Zoo. I believe Korkeasaari is still, to date, (with Singapore Zoo hot on its heels) one of the greatest zoos I've ever visited as it treats the animals really well and the exhibits are the best and most natural I've seen so far. My favourite animals were the caribou and otters.
We went to Carousel Kahvila and bought some strawberries to eat on the way, then went to Kauppatori which is the local market that's on every day in the harbour. They were packing up so sadly I didn't really get to have a look at the souvenirs, but I got a good look at the produce which basically was just strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and kantarelli mushrooms. The hot food they serve there is also very traditional, composed of root vegetables such as carrot and potato as well as salmon.

In the evening we went for dinner at IKEA, where I bought a bedsheet, a doona and pillow cover as well as a bowl, plate and glass for my student accomodation in Copenhagen, as Mum suggested. This means that I won't be rushing around for necessities on the same day that I arrive, as I arrive late in the afternoon. We also for went for an evening motorbike ride.
I probably won't be posting much at all from now on until I arrive there next Wednesday as everything here is more or less the same as usual.
