Why are there lemons everywhere?

Can someone explain to me why there are lemons everywhere in Sorrento - and I don't mean on just trees, I mean on tiles, clothing, aprons, cork stoppers, ceramic dishes, Christmas decorations, you name it. I mean it's cool, but when every second souvenir store is lemon-themed, you begin to wonder. I get if it's speciality of the region, but there's only so much you can do with lemons.

Today I've dedicated purely to Sorrento. I went down to the buffet this morning and had a lot of coffee, and a lot of cheese on toast, and sat with two girls from Torquay who are in the opposite dorm to me for an hour or so to chat. Most of the morning I spent in the sun (acquiring a nice tomato-shade of sunburn) reading before-mentioned my book, and finished it. I then decided to take my camera down to the main square of Sorrento and snap some photos, before catching up for lunch with some of the girls from the hostel who were coming from the beach. I had a greek salad, and after tried some mint ice cream from the local gelateria. It was a pretty unique flavour but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Tonight I'm heading out for drinks, and tomorrow I'll be doing a day trip to Positano & Amalfi, meeting up with some friends who left the hostel this morning. On Sunday, I'm taking another day trip to Capri, and have booked an all-inclusive boat tour of the island, which includes swimming and exploring some of the caves, a banana boat ride, lunch and free time to explore the island - safe to say I'm excited. The hostel I'm staying at really is lovely, and virtually everyone I've met here is Australian. Not much else to report, here's some photos!
