Today was my birthday! I've now entered by 20s, and left my teenage years behind - mentally though, I still feel 16. I've spent the day just relaxing, not really pushing myself to do much as I wind down in preparation for starting my semester in Denmark on the 5th of August. I had a little bit of asleep in, and then went downstairs with Katherine to the market for a cappuccino and croissant.
We wondered around the market - I bought a turnip-print tea towel as well as some prints from a local artist and a small ceramic coffee cup and saucer for my apartment in Copenhagen, and two vintage dresses. We bought some peaches, cherries and grapes for later.
For lunch, we ate at Flavio Al Velavevodotto and ordered the two vegetable antipasti - the caponata (sweet and sour aubergine) and zucchine alla scapece (vinegary courgette), plus cacio e pepe and homemade ravioli for mains. The restaurants backs on the an ancient dumping site for used amphorae which can be seen in the walls of the restaurant.
From the restaurant, we walked to a local gelateria, where I helped myself to some tiramisu and almond ice cream.
That pretty much finished my day here. I've bought myself a sketch book from Flying Tiger and am starting to watch Friends on Netflix so I'm keeping myself busy when there's not much to do. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!
