I've taken interest in a variety of diets since I became familiar with the healthy/organic society of the world. Even in my younger years, I refused to eat chicken as we owned our own flock, and then completely refused meat after a year or so. I had seen enough vegetarian propaganda to keep me off meat for quite some time - however as the years went by, meat found its way into my diet again, but only in small portions, as I had grown to dislike the taste of red meats and only found myself satisfied with chicken and fish. However, after having blood tests and discovering I had low iron levels, which lead to a prescription of iron supplements, I transitioned back into eating lean meats as the large red pills smelt and tasted foul, as well as made me feel ill.
However, after taking up a keen interest in cooking and spending a fair amount of my time on health fad infested social media, I started to consider adopting myself into the 'trendy' vegan society. Although ultimately, I knew that being vegan was not a lifestyle I could uphold for a long period of time, I started researching more and more into it, and became incredibly immersed in the aesthetic sides of these meals these girls were producing day in and day out.
This inspired me and my friend to take on the 30 Day Vegan Pledge, beginning on the 1st of September and ending on the 1st of October as a part of becoming more globally aware of the meat, dairy and egg industry that damages the environment as well as inflicts unimaginable pain on the livestock. I will admit that knowing what goes on in these industries is heartbreaking, and sometimes eating the produce can be difficult, however is part of our generation to assume that this Earth is ours to take, and we are here to take advantage of our resources, even if/when it requires inhumane acts. However, these steps I am taking to become more aware of what goes on in society, and to understand how the produce we consume gets to us ultimately becomes a part of building a new smarter, more efficient and gentler generation.
