Today was rather interesting. After a slow morning, I left the house around 11 am and rode to the Zoologisk Museum, about a 10 minute bike ride away in Universitetsparken which is part of Københavns Universitet. The whole museum spans across one floor, but is brilliantly laid out, the space well utilised. I'm a big fan of natural history, particularly biology and so whenever I travel I really try to check out the local natural history museums. A large portion of the displays were dedicated the Charles Darwin and his findings and theories, as well as artists renditions of science and fossils. I really loved this museum and would really recommend anyone visiting Copenhagen to have a look.

The kids' area allowed for some creative release:

From there, I rode to the Statens Museum for Kunst (the National Art Gallery) in Sølvgade. This is a huge gallery with an excellent gift store for prints, and features surrealist, abstract, French and Nordic style art, among many others.

Now the last place I visited really was the most fascinating and also terrifying site so far. Christiana. Christian a small gated community located in Christianshavn. For some context - marijuana is legal to smoke in Denmark, but illegal to sell, except in Christiana. Thus, Christiana is dubbed "hippie central". I was told that this really was a interesting place to visit because it was so different to the rest of Copenhagen. Alas, I was no disappointed. It really was a strange community, and difficult to enjoy when you were constantly enveloped in a plume of smoke. The crowd was very diverse, from groups of young teengers to families, some enjoying a beer, some enjoying a joint. I can't really say I see the appeal of spending more time than necessary in such a place, but that's just me. However I really did enjoy the capturing the street art.

Yeah, don't think I'll be going back there.

Tomorrow I start my Danish course and hopefully will begin to make some friends here! I've been looking at sporting and recreational clubs available at the university, and although there's a gym here at my college, I'm thinking I might take up kickboxing for the fun of it for the semester. As classes starts in about a month, however, I haven't been able to sign up for anything yet. That's all for now!

Farvel!
