Rome - Vatican City

Writer's picture: Soph SjöströmSoph Sjöström

We arrived in Rome today late in the afternoon, and heat was still, for me, almost unbearable in the sun. We took the train from Mestre Stazione to Padova, where we changed trains to Roma Termini. The AirBnb we're staying at is a little further out of the city centre but still has bus routes straight to the sightseeing places, and is lovely and quiet. There's a supermarket right next door, which is amazing and full of foods I've never seen before (especially the biscuit aisle). After we dropped all our stuff off at our place, we headed straight for the Saint Peter's Square, St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. First we treated ourselves to our first Roman pizza e pasta (with Pecorino of course).

We did have a slight hiccup with getting into the Sistine Chapel as (predictably) my skirt was too short and Jamie had to wait for me to go and buy a scarf which I wore like a sarong to get in. The artwork inside however did not disappoint.

Not wanting to get caught in the dark, we headed home after seeing the chapel. Tomorrow we'll see the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps etc. Hello to everyone reading from Jamie and I!
