London - Day #1

I arrived in London at 5:30 am in the morning, and made my way to with my luggage in tow to where I'm staying in Holborn - a short one hour ride on the tube from the airport, located in inner London. After three coffees, determined to make the most of my time and with Jamie arriving a day later, I ventured out with the notion of visiting the local museums and getting my bearings of the city. First stop - British Museum. I vaguely remember being here when I was younger, but thought I would give the place another shot in light of the free entry.

Although the Greek and Roman artefacts and history didn't appeal to me, I found myself drawn towards the African, Indigenous Australian and North American cultural exhibits, due to their patterned and colorful nature.

After visiting the British Museum, I decided to find myself something to eat. I treated myself to a Woolley's salad - great value for £7 where you're given a bowl to fill with your choice of salads from the salad bar, and as much as you'd like.

I then took the tube to South Kensington, where I visited both the Natural History Museum (and had my breath taken away by the enormous blue whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling) as well as the Science Museum. From there, I walked to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and had a drink by the Thames.

I haven't really felt the effects of jetlag yet, but as Jamie says "sleep is a vengeful mistress", so I'm sure it will catch up with me at some point. After dinner with Roland and Angie back at the apartment, I've decided to have an early night in preparation to meet Jamie at the airport the tomorrow, which includes a 5am wakeup to take the first train available to Terminal 4. London seems lovely and it's so green, I can't wait to see more!
